For youth players just starting out in the game, nothing is better than repetition of fundamental skills. Bought the Jr at the beginning of the season for my 9-11 year old baseball team. Also bought the Jugs battery pack. It has been incredible, as we can get in far more swings in batting practice than using a coach or kid pitch. Pitches are never inside or outside, if the machine is aligned on the plate, but vary enough up and down to make hitting a challenge. This us using leather, kevlar seam, pitching machine balls.
The best use is really for fly ball practice. It can throw the ball anywhere you want to aim it, low, high, short, long, and can put the ball exactly where you want, and then repeat every few seconds. Far more control than hitting or throwing. Kids get in more reps. They think it's great fun to see how many flies the team can catch in a row.
Even though expensive and heavy, would highly recommend the battery pack, too. It makes it easy to set up wherever you want, and it has never run out of power in the longest practices. No long cords or generators necessary.
Pros: Rock solid construction, reliable, consistent pitching.
